INVITATION FOR LENT

QUESTIONING JESUS

When we listen to the invitation to a disciplined Lent we hear a call to fasting, prayer, and giving of alms. Perhaps these disciplines appear strange and out-dated to you; perhaps they sound routine and unappealing; perhaps they seem just not for us. However, if we think of what they represent—giving up, filling anew, and giving away—perhaps we can find new meaning for our Lenten journey. Now is the time to consider what we will not do, what we wish to happen, and what we will do; that way we will be ready to start our trek on Ash Wednesday, February 25th.

I am interested in hearing Jesus answer my questions. In fact, I always want answers. However when I read Scripture I find that those who wrote of their experiences with Jesus did not always get an answer to the questions they posed. Sometimes Jesus answered; sometimes he did not. Why? What does that say to me, to us, about questioning Jesus?

I don’t know the answer now, but am intrigued by the quest. Will you join me? I would like to use this blog to explore the idea. I would find it more useful if we could do it together. So I invite you to visit the site regularly (a kind of Lenten discipline), to engage in the parts of the study you find helpful, and to add your insights and ponderings. I will provide some passages and thoughts to begin the conversation and add regularly my own reflections. I look forward to hearing yours.
I encourage you to make some decisions and promises now for you Lenten journey. What disciplines of giving up, of filling, of giving away will you adopt?

Blessings
Caroline
