Engage in a time of Worship:
Gather around your Advent wreath.
Light all the candles.
Gaze into the light the candles give.
Listen to merriment of this day.
Say:
We bear witness with the faithful of every time and place
to the coming again of our Lord,
the light of the world, the savior of humankind, the prince of peace.
We have waited …
with the prophets of Israel who announced God’s promise and our hope,
with John the Baptist who called us to repent and to prepare,
with daughters of Zion who joyously proclaimed that God is in our midst,
with those of old who told us the good news of God’s salvation.
With choirs of angels, and with all the heavenly host, we sing:
"Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth, peace and goodwill to all."
Read Luke 2: 1-20
Walk with the travelers, Mary and Joseph. Are you a traveler too? Where are you going? Where do you come from?
Watch your flocks in the black of night on a lonely hill side. Is your life full of routine? What happens as you live through the dark times?
See the angel brilliance. Hear their song. Feel the shepherds fear. Have you seen an angel recently? Do you hear the songs of God’s glory? Listen to the message the angels brought the shepherds. In your heart hear the words of joy, of peace, of salvation.
Now go with the shepherds to Bethlehem. See Joseph…Mary…and the baby. Look into their eyes. Listen to their breathing. How will you respond to this gift? What indeed have you been given?
Walk through the village at night. Return to your hillside, your sheep. Ponder this day, this child, this God.
Christ is here today! Merry Christmas! Amen.
Begin Christmastide.
The blessing of God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,
be on us all, now and always. Amen.
Allow the candles to burn brightly today.
