…the word of God came to John…He went into all the region around the Jordan, proclaiming a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins,… Luke 3: 2b-3
Read Luke 3:1-3
Remember, Advent is a penitential season. When we hear that we may feel cheated. Preparing for Christmas is exciting; why talk about sin and forgiveness? But God through John the Baptist called for this way of preparation for the beginning of Jesus’ ministry. So we too are called this season to repent, to turn from or toward, to see with a new mind-set.

Stop—Reflect—
Of what are we individually and collectively called to repent?
Lord we need your forgiveness. We repent in sackcloth and ashes. Despite our outward gaiety we do know we fail to see the world as you envision and thus fail to be instruments of your justice. Enable us to see anew, to change our
hearts, to walk in the paths of righteousness. Amen.
