"Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away...
But about that day or hour no one knows,...only the Father."
Advent begins this Sunday. While the world prepares for Christmas, we prepare for the Day of the Lord, the coming of the Son of Man, the return of the Messiah in glory. And the advice is "Keep awake". It's hard for me to imagine any two anticipations that are more different--Christmas as we celebrate in our gifting and decorating and partying and the end times as described in the gospels.
Read the words Mark uses:
24-25"Following those hard times,
Sun will fade out,
moon cloud over,
Stars fall out of the sky,
cosmic powers tremble.
26-27"And then they'll see the Son of Man enter in grand style, his Arrival filling the sky—no one will miss it! He'll dispatch the angels; they will pull in the chosen from the four winds, from pole to pole. The Message
In the light of these words:
How will you prepare this Advent? What do you truly seek?
How will you "Keep awake"?
What is your prayer?
"Come Lord Jesus, come!"
