December 11, 2011 3rd Sunday of Advent John 1: 6 - 8; 19 - 28

A Witness to the Light

6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 He came as a witness to testify to the light, so that all might believe through him. 8 He himself was not the light, but he came to testify to the light. John 1: 6 - 8

Jesus has many names--Messiah, Christ, Son of Man, Son of God, Lamb of God, Son of David, are but a few.  The writer of the gospel of John begins by calling him the Word made flesh, the true light that comes to the world.  In the darkness of winter light is most appreciated--It seems to say that the long barren time is ending; the warmth of the bright sun will return; hope for renewal and growth is kindled.  We need a witness to testify to the coming of this light.

Where is the "voice crying in the wilderness" for you this Advent?  Can we find the one who cries out?  Will we hear his words?  What for you points to the "true light that enlightens everyone"?

I invite you to:
            Sit in the dark.
            "See" the light.
            Rejoice in its coming.
            Pray "Come, Lord Jesus, come."
