Complete Darkness
In the beginning when God created the heavens and the earth, the earth was a formless void and darkness covered the face of the deep, while a wind from God swept over the face of the waters. Genesis 1:1-2
The lights are out; no moon or stars shine; complete darkness. “The dead of night!” we say.
Open the door, step in; all is blackness, confining; there is no light. “Wait, I can’t see!” we say.
A problem arises; there seems no solution, no exit, no way out. “What am I to do?” we say.
We’ve all been in the dark at times. We can remember the demons of childhood that lived under the bed only to come out at night. We can all think of times when the emptiness of where we were kept us from seeing. We all know the sense of hopelessness of overwhelming problems. Most of us know too the emptiness when God seems not to be there. These are times we wish to avoid, but how real they are.
Remember, imagine for a while your times of complete darkness.
Remember, imagine your feelings.
Remember, imagine your responses.
What is the nature of complete darkness?
God before Creation—
Christ before the incarnation—
The World before light—
Loss before hope—
Guilt before forgiveness—
I look forward to hearing your thought. Light the first candle today Sunday, Nov. 30.
Our time of waiting begins.
Blessings
Caroline
