My soul magnifies the Lord…
for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant.
He has brought down the powerful from their thrones,
and lifted up the lowly;
he has filled the hungry with good things,
and sent the rich away empty. Luke 1: 47, 52-53
Read Luke 1: 46-55
This week we hear God’s promised one is coming real soon. The child is conceived; the word is spoken; God’s anointed shall stand among us. But to see we must look among the lowly, for God comes to bring good tidings to those oppressed. Power is shifting.
Today let us sing (literally or imaginatively) as Mary does.
Magnificat anima mea Dominum, et exsultavit spiritus meus in Deo salvatore meo, quia respexit humilitatem ancillae suae.[1]
(music above)
Quietly make Mary’s song yours. At the end of the day remember that God chooses you too.
Jesus, we marvel at the words of your mother. We are blessed by your mercy. We are blessed by you presence. We seek the world where peace comes because all are held in justice. Afflict our haughtiness and heal our poverty, for we pray in your name. Amen.
