Matthew 18: 15 - 20. September 4, 2011
We all remember that childhood rhyme along with the hand motions. Perhaps think about the church, our church, as you read today’s passage in Matthew.
Read the passage Matthew 18: 15 - 20 in full.
The first and last verse struck me, Matthew 18: 15 and 18:20.
15 "If another member of the church sins against you, go and point out the fault when the two of you are alone. If the member listens to you, you have regained that one. NRSV
Have you been sinned against by one you call your brother or sister in Christ?
Remember that experience—
Feel again that time if it seems right—
Recall what you did and what was the result—
15 "If a fellow believer hurts you, go and tell him—work it out between the two of you. If he listens, you've made a friend.” The Message
Have you sinned against one you call your brother or sister in Christ?
Remember the experience—
Feel again your emotions at the time—
Recall what you did and what resulted—
20 For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them." NRSV
Have you experienced a time when you felt Christ’s presence as you were with brothers and sisters in Christ?
Remember that time—
Feel again as you did there—
Recall what was done and what resulted—
Spend some time connecting these three experiences.
How do these experiences and this passage define church?
Blessings Caroline
