February 12, 2012 6th Sunday in Ordinary Time Mark 1: 40-45

Read the story in this passage three times.
On the first read visualize the encounter; identify the significant actions and words.  In your mind paint a picture of the scene.
On the second read be the leper.  Feel what he must have felt as an outcast of society.  Imagine his anxiety and courage as he approached Jesus.  Let his rejoicing over his cure be yours.  Skip.  Run.  Tell everyone you meet.
On the third time you read imagine you are Jesus.  It's okay; he was human as we are.  Think how he must have felt as he saw the tainted man come toward him.  Let your compassion rise as you hear the leper's plea.  How does it feel to be able to heal.  In your mind dialogue the conflict between preaching your message and crowds response to your reputation as a healer.

Mark 1: 40-45
40 A leper came to him begging him, and kneeling he said to him, "If you choose, you can make me clean." 41 Moved with pity, Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, and said to him, "I do choose. Be made clean!" 42 Immediately the leprosy left him, and he was made clean. 43 After sternly warning him he sent him away at once, 44 saying to him, "See that you say nothing to anyone; but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded, as a testimony to them." 45 But he went out and began to proclaim it freely, and to spread the word, so that Jesus could no longer go into a town openly, but stayed out in the country; and people came to him from every quarter.

Reflect on your insights.  Pray thanks to Jesus.
