The new year has just begun it seems and now Lent is upon us. Preparing for the glorious event of resurrection is now our work. But wait—I’ve only begun to delve the depths of incarnation. Jesus you have just begun to call and I still struggle to answer.
How are you with me, Jesus? How do you reveal God for me? Can I call God, Father, Mother, or should I call to the Great One, the Other? And who am I to you, Christ? Who is the ‘I’ that you know?
But we need not cry wait, for Lent is the time for these questions, for delving the depths of the incarnation, for knowing the revealed God and the now revealed human being. Lent is indeed the time to plunge deeply into the deep recesses of our souls to find the dark that hides from the light. Lent is the time to seek diligently for the One who is both within and without, creator and redeemer. Lent is the time to learn the enormity of the love of our God, for this One knowing the vastness of our rejection still comes and comes.
Now is the time to decide how you will observe this time of searching and yearning.
Will you let go of that which consumes you and keeps you from God? Will you engage that which opens doors to a more intimate relationship with your maker?
Will you pray more, study more, give more? Will you eat less, waste less, talk less?
What will you do? How will you be?
God waits for us. Will you come?
