How easy it is to stop short of the true prize. We think we have found the treasure, the perfect gift, the one and only. But God is coming with power and fire. The Holy Spirit will be upon us.
Imagine again Christ’s coming—
Feel the baptism of fire.
Give free reign to the Holy Spirit.
Jesus, it is easier to think of you as a baby rather than the Christ of glory. Fire burns, and while we enjoy its warmth, we tremble at its winnowing. So we can pray, “Come Lord Jesus, come” only with the assurance of your mercy. Amen.
